Wednesday, May 25th, 1977: Several friends who lived in Long Beach at a place called The AnarchoVillage drove out to Hollywood to get in line for the opening night of Star Wars. Even though it was premiering at Grauman’s (later, Mann’s/TCL) Chinese Theatre on the big screen, it was still considered a ‘sleeper’. They were able to get their tickets ($3.50!) and get in line with ease. What they saw blew them away and changed science-fiction films forever. When they left the theater, floating on air, energized, they decided they had to form a fan club, the first Star Wars fan club! When Victor Koman got home, he started writing the Bulldog Edition of THE FORCE. Once done, he typed it onto a mimeo stencil for his own A.B. Dick mimeograph(!) and ran off a few hundred copies to hand out that Friday at the Avco Embassy Theatre. Thus began The First Order of the Jedi Knights, Intergalactic.
